The Elegance of Frau Karl Druschki:

Regarded as the most famous white rose among remontant roses, Frau Karl Druschki was hailed as the most beautiful white rose upon its introduction. Some experts even classify it as a hybrid tea rose due to one of its parents, Mme Caroline Testout, belonging to this class. For a long time, rose breeders aimed to create a rose that is both remontant (repeating) and entirely white. Frau Karl Druschki fulfilled this desire with its long, sturdy stems bearing large, snow-white, and beautifully shaped flowers.

Charm in Bloom:

The white, large, and double flowers emerge from long, pointed pink buds. Initially, the semi-opened stage reveals the flower’s most extraordinary charm, gradually becoming slightly disheveled in full bloom, showcasing yellow stamens. Occasionally, flowers with a hint of pale lavender may appear. At its prime, this rose was the most popular exhibition rose and an elegant cut flower for floral arrangements.

Cultivation and Characteristics:

Frau Karl Druschki is an easy-to-grow garden plant, resilient and winter-hardy. However, it is susceptible to powdery mildew and dislikes prolonged rains, causing buds to rot without opening. The plant thrives best in hot and dry climates. It is a vigorous, prickly, branching bush that can grow up to 2 meters in height and one and a half meters in width, suitable for use as a low climbing rose. It prefers minimal pruning, with pinching of long shoots promoting abundant flowering of lateral stems.

Legacy and Name Origin:

Named after the wife of the president of the German Rose Society, Clara Druschki (née Hildah), Frau Karl Druschki is a tribute to Karl Druschki, one of the founders and the president of the German Rose Friends Society from 1893. The rose’s legacy is a timeless symbol of beauty, elegance, and the artistry of rose breeding.

Frau Karl Druschki rose is a living piece of horticultural history, a timeless beacon of elegance in gardens worldwide. Whether adorning a garden bed or gracing a bouquet, its pure white blooms enchant generations of rose enthusiasts.
